У липні оголосили про бій Усика з південноафриканцем Джонні Мюллером27, який того ж місяця займав 15-ту позицію в рейтингу WBO28. 29 серпня Олександр здобув упевнену перемогу над Мюллером, утретє захистивши пояс інтерконтинентального чемпіона WBO. 13 грудня 2014 року Усик вийшов на ринг із найсильнішим суперником у своїй кар’єрі до цього моменту — південноафриканцем Дені Вентером.
